ACTOR Anthony Head cut a yellow ribbon to open the Dogs Trust charity shop in Salisbury on Saturday.

The star, who plays Uther Pendragon in the BBC series Merlin, and his partner, This Morning animal behaviour expert Sarah Fisher, also cut a celebratory cake, to applause from well-wishers crowded into the Crane Street shop.

The couple, who have five dogs, are staunch supporters of the charity. They quickly made friends with Border collie Glen, who was rehomed by the trust with Journal reporter Annie Riddle two years ago and who was eagerly sampling all the doggie toys in stock.

The king of the castle in TV drama Merlin has officially opened a new £25,000 playground at Castle Primary School in Newlands Road, Keynsham.
Anthony Head, who also starred in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Little Britain, signed autographs at the Key Stage 2 play facility which pupils designed themselves.

The school's Parent Teacher Association donated a large portion of the money for the project with proceeds from a summer fair, Mother's Day tea and children's Christmas disco.

Anthony, who is a friend of PTA member Anna Sheppard, told the Evening Post: "The playground is stunning, really, really beautiful.
"It is a really imaginative use of space, with a climbing frame made out of branches and even a big cheese. There was nothing before and it is nice to see somewhere the children can play and be safe."
