Well, I've just watched the first Rex episode with Marc Hoffman and Nikki Herzog and I can't figure out what happened to Alex Brandtner and Christian Böck either. Apparently nothing happened to them - they're just gone. Rex looked dejected about it - no explanation. Not that they COULD explain it with anything other than a death, because Alex loved that dog so much he would never have left him behind. He was the most natural with Rex out of all the three male leads across the seasons. Moser was great but Brandtner just had something special - maybe the real-life actor was more of a dog-lover than the other guys? I've probably seen every episode of every season at least once now with the sporadic backwards screening on Australian TV, and Hoffman is terrible with Rex! He cares more about the girl than the dog, there isn't that special bond that a dog-lover has with their dog - it irritates me. He hardly ever even talks to Rex. And going back to Moser's death - did anyone notice that ordinarily Moser and Rex were very close, but in that episode he told Rex he was sorry that he hadn't had much time to play lately, making his death even sadder, but also making it easier to get to know and love the New Guy Alex for being such a natural with Rex and so athletic and willing to play. That actor transition was well-written, so why did the writers treat us so badly this time - no farewell to Alex!

I've got to say I so agree with you! Rai Uno keeps showing REX over and over and I only watch it when Brandtner is in it. Tobias Moretti did not have the same chemistry with Rex as Brandtner did. you're right. He was more interested in his girlfriend at the time. Brandtner actually treats Rex as an equal and has such a caring loving relationship with him always praising him and giving him hugs. Also i noticed that in the Brandtner series Rex is forefront to the episode. He usually saves the hero including Brandtner himself. When the last series came with Hoffmann it was all about him and the new girl, rather tiresome. Rex hardly appeared in it.
У Мозера было больше личной жизни и как-то Рекс у него был (особенно под конец) просто как ну собака - и собака, а вот Алекс реально с ним был все время, как с равным и хвалил всегда и очень по-доброму относился. Всегда когда Рекс набедокурит в очередной раз, он так философски: ну и кто это будет убирать - глупый вопрос: я, конечно ))) Это было ужасно мило и Рекса в сериях было и правда много.
А эти новые - они уже парочка и все время вдвоем, а Рекс и Фриц вообще как третьи лишние и непонятно, зачем в сериале.
